Top firms in Kenya are among the brands that were feted in an international award dubbed Pacesetters Awards, in an event that was held at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda. Pacesetters Award (PSA) is an annual Industry leadership Recognition program organized by Jubilant Stewards of Africa (JSA), a Non-Governmental Organization, to celebrate key industry leaders for their innovation, quality products, and service delivery, job creation, exemplary leadership, growing the economy, and transforming the society. The NGO seeks to recognize brands from across 10 countries that have a positive social and economic impact while little attention is given to the balance sheet. Some of the notable names that were honored in the last year’s award and have also been honoured this year include; Mwananchi Credit, Ena Coach Bus, City Walk. Others are the online shopping platform Jiji Uganda, Regional Leasing firm – Vehicle and Equipment Leasing Limited (VAELL), Digital Driving School, and the Kampala-based Fintech firm Service Cops. Some of these Pacesetting firms have also been featured in other awards, such as the Top 100 companies by Nation Media Group KPMG Survey, East African Business Council, and South Africa’s Titan Building Nation awards among others.
Through an East African survey that closed on 30th October 2022, the committee carefully vets the nominees through a competitive and though process involving a public vote and a panel of judges. This year’s award has attracted many industry players that have partnered with Jubilant Stewards of Africa (JSA) to ensure the success of this year’s Awards in Uganda. Last year some of the institutions that partnered with the Jubilant Stewards of Africa included Telecommunication giant Safaricom Plc, Myspace Properties Ltd, Quipbank Trust Limited, and Nation Media Group.
Speaking in Kampala Uganda the Pacesetter Awards, Jared Oundo, Executive Director of Jubilant Stewards of Africa, said, “Pacesetters Awards considers a range of quantitative and qualitative aspects to determine and honor the winners. We initiated a novel survey model was initiated in 2020 as per the hyperinflationary environment and that is what we are currently using. The model has since been tested and it demonstrated its functionality, elasticity, and robustness. Furthermore, models in various industries such as the financial sector were remodeled to enhance their significance to the current environment, enhance quality and increase the objectivity of results.”
The new entrants in the 2022 Eastern Africa chapter of the awards include Super Manufacturer Ltd, Electric Cars distributor – Go Electric Limited, E.M Prime Lands Limited, Certified Homes Limited, Real Estate firms – Amara Realty and EM Prime Lands, Village Hope Core International, Country Clock Kenya, Extreme Adventure Busiika, Service Cops Uganda Limited, Rentco Africa, Highlands Drinks Limited, Digital Lender – Tala, Cake City, Inter-Consult Limited Tanzania, Masai Cables, Uganda Professional Chefs Union, Uganda Crop Care Limited, payment innovators- iPay among others.
The award is among Africa’s most prestigious recognitions for people and organizations working to promote equal employment opportunities for citizens in the countries they operate in.
“It is encouraging to see entrepreneurs and their firms undertaking diverse initiatives to go beyond the call of duty. The Pacesetters Awards are aimed at identifying and highlighting these commendable efforts to motivate more people to contribute to the betterment of society,” said JSA Executive Director.
The awards were initiated to appreciate and honor exceptional organizations’ contribution to society and making a better world it recognizes excellence but also an investment, innovation, and a drive to be the best. We have organizations and leaders going beyond their comfort zones to make the world a better place and we need to give them all due recognition for their outstanding efforts.
According to Mr. Oundo, next year they intend to host the Awards in more African countries, starting with East Africa and then proceeding to the countries in Southern Africa later in the year. The ceremony, held in Serena Hotel Kampala, included a gala dinner in which various high-profile guests and government officials were present. The organization will be moving to the Southern Africa edition that will feature and recognize brands in countries like Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

Commenting on the Pacesetters Awards East Africa Ugandan Chapter, Jared Oundo said, “We look forward to continuing honoring individuals and companies- small, medium, and large, in the region for their endeavors to take leadership in their respective industries. In the individual category, Angela Ndambuki, the Regional Director of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) for Sub-Saharan Africa, was also featured in the awards as a key player in enabling Business Growth Technologically. Upon receiving the awards, she said her recognition demonstrated that women can make a change in the business world and that the recognition inspired her to put innovative ways in seeking solutions in the tech world.
“I am grateful that my name is featured alongside inspirational names across East Africa for playing a significant role in business. Pacesetter Awards is doing a good thing recognizing women in leadership because when given a chance, we can shine,” she said.
Speaking while being honored as a Pacesetter in E-commerce, Grace Gikonyo, Head of Public Relations, Jiji Kenya said, “We are thrilled to be recognized as a Pacesetter in the 2022 Awards in Kampala. This honor is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and we are proud to be recognized alongside other leading businesses in the region. Pacesetters Awards (PSA) survey is a one-year Industry leadership Recognition appraisal initiated by Jubilant Stewards of Africa (JSA), a Non-Governmental Organization, to celebrate industry leaders for their innovation, and quality products, services, job creation, exemplary leadership, growing the economy and transforming the society.
